I have a 94 ranger with a 5 speed trans. There is a whining noise in 1st,2nd,3rd,& 5th. 4th gear is quiet. anyone have any ideas, I just had the gear box oil changed but the problem is still there.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Bill
I know this is kind of a stupid question but is it at all RPM levels or certain ones? Is it constant when in the gears or whine on/off intervals? Is neutral quiet too? What size engine? Just curious, plus might help get help sooner.
Thanks for the reply James,
It is a 3.0 and it happens @ all RPM's. It is just a constant whine when the clutch is engaged except for 4th gear. For now I've been just crusing in 4th gear.
Maybe it's your power steering pump. Mine whines exacly when your's does. My power steering pump has some air in it I can't get rid of. When you're in 4th and 5th, you're RPMs aren't as high. Let me know what you figure out. -Kevin
I decided to stop at the Trans. shop and let them diagnose the problem. They are quite sure it's the center bearing in the tranny, it is used in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 5th gear. 4th gear is direct drive and does not use this bearing. So I guess its time to look for a rebuild
