2wd to 4wd

I have a 79 f150 supercab short bed 2wd with a c6 and 460. I wanted to know if i had a donor 4wd if it is possible to convert it and how much would be involved.

Take the good parts off your 2wd and put them on the 4wd. The frame is substantially different, and it would be easier to make the 4x4 whole again from your 4x2 than trying to convert the other way around. 4x4's have different cross members for structural strength, as well as many other different parts(forward mounted steering box amongst them) as well as different spring and shock towers, trans mounts, transfer case mounts, etc. You'd be better off looking at making the 4x4 go, than converting your 4x2.

I agree... switch your parts from the 2wd over to a donor 4x4..

Some of the chassis parts from the 2wd and the 4wd are the same.. but so much is different that I would just fix up a 4x4 with your existing parts...
