Accelaration/Stumbling Problem Solved: Bad COP!
Many thanks to Racerguy and the advice from others. My 2001, 4.6, Supercrew is running like a top. The fix was easy once I took the truck to Autozone and pulled the code which indicated a #6 cylinder misfire. The Autozone guy and I agreed that either it was a bad plug (69,000, not likely) or a bad COP.
I decided that the cheapest way and most logical thing to do would be to replace, not just the #6 plug, but all eight of them. No big deal. Took about an hour and fifteen minutes -- and that was my first time to do it.
Nope, changing the plugs didn't solve the problem. So the next order of business was to replace the #6 COP. Voila! Problem solved and the truck runs like new again.
Going to Autozone (a free service) was great advice and a hell of a lot cheaper than the poor guy who posted recently with his bad COP problem and the Ford dealer. All told I spent about $75.00 for eight plugs and one COP. That other poor fellow spent almost $1,000.00. That's an outrage how he was treated.
Happy trucking everyone,
Jack
