Anyone have any "must do's" that I should do to help pretect my tranny from premature malfunction? I Just bought a 2001 F-350 7.3 AUTO 4x4 Ex-Cab Dually LWB with 60k miles and want to make sure it continues to give me good service. I will be pulling a 6000Lb trailer with the truck. By the way what kind of Tranny do I have anyhow???
You have a 4r100 Tranny. First and foremost get gauges. (if you are gonna get the tranny gauge may as well get them all as the pyrometer is the most important gauge you can have, tranny temp is second) Get a bigger tranny cooler. The Tru-cool max is my recommendation. I suggest a larger tranny pan, not a must do but very benificial!!!
yep, that is what you should do; gauges, cooler, and sonnax valve and tricumulator springs. one other thing i can give you a warning about, its just an FYI. on the early build 2001(7/23/00-3/21/01) 4R100 they used a mechanical diode control which there have been some problems with
184,000 miles on mobey, checked the tranny fluid 4 times before Flushing and changing to Mobil 1 Syn. fluid at 141,000!! Haven't checked sense!! I pull a 10,000# trailer about 7% of the time!!
I talked to a good friend of mine who has worked at ford on transmissions only for 24 years and he said he never heard of a sonnax valve OR Tricumulator springs. Where do I get these??? He said the BIGGEST problem he has ever seen with these tranny's is the pump seal going out because of overheating (mostly see's this problem in summer). Which if driven and not knowing the problem you create BIGGER problems. Other than that not much of a problem tranny. He said the largest tranny cooler available should fix any problems you may incure. Your opinions???

P.S. Where do I find the SONNAX VALVE and TRICUMULATOR SPRINGS??? what kind of a task are they to install?
http://www.dieselinnovations.com/ they carry them here. Does anyone know how these valves and springs would do with a programmer that changes the pressure as well.
I have the Sonnax valve and Tricumulator springs installed along my Superchips programmer. This is a very noticable difference in the firmness of the shifts. I feel it is beneficial for clutch longevity, especially when towing.
i recently installed the sonnax and tri springs, i have 2000 F250 with 80HP superchip installed, and WOW what a difference in shifting, Much firmer shifts, was money will spent
