Coolant leak?

Hi all- I have a 2000 F350 with the V10 (47K). I have noticed a small amount of water that appears under the right side of the engine, towards the rear (right under the front spring shackle), after I shut it down. It isn't a large amount, and as far as I can tell, doesn't contain antifreeze. Is it something to be concerned about, or normal "condensation" from something? Thanks in advance.

I believe that it's just some kind of overflow from the a/c. My Grand Marquis does that sometimes so does my friends 7.3 PSD.

I agree. Check to make sure it's not stopped up with mud or a stick or dirt dabber nest.

More than likely it is just water from the AC system. A few years ago the AC systems were set to cycle on and off even if the AC or Heater controlls were all off. Helps to keep the system lubricated and the seals good on vehicles that go many winter months without using the AC system.

It is possible, even in cool weather, to see the AC drip usually under passenger side behind front axle and before firewall.

Although you are describing a drip too far forward, there is another source of plain old water drip in these vehicles. There are usually very small holes in some muffler and catalytic converters to drain out water form combustion and condensation. Not all versions of exhaust systems/mufflers have these weep holes, but many do.

Fred, I don't know about the 2005's but the '99 - '04 models have only two positions (besides OFF) that the compressor is not energized, and that's VENT and HEAT.

More than likely he used defrost, defrost/floor, or vent/floor and didn't realize that the compressor was energized.

It does cylce in those positions, which the frequency depends on the heat control position.

I had the truck at Ford today for an LOF and spoke with a tech about this. It's moisture from the AC system (as some have said), and is of no concern. I didn't realize the system was operational even with the controls set other than ac. Thanks again-David
