07 4x4 EL Expedition

Our expedition has been shuttering at between 1750 and 2250 RPM under light acceleration. Is my trans taking a dump on me or is something else wrong? I don't have a CEL or anything else coming on.

I did change the oil on the trans about 40k miles ago. I know it's supposed to be lifetime but I tow a fair amount with it.

If I do need a new trans does anyone make a better one than others? We tow a large travel trailer and live in the hills.

I would start by checking/cleaning the throttle body and checking for vacuum leaks. The 6R75 tranny isn't the best one out there, but it's fairly solid and your problem doesn't sound like a tranny issue. FWIW, if you ever do end up replacing it the 6R80 (used in 2009+ Expeditions) is a little better.

Sounds more like a misfire to me. Have you ever done the coils? Sometimes you can go quite a while like this before it sets the CEL, although if you can read pending codes they will be there.
