Electronic speedometer from a C4?

Electronic speedometer from a C4?
Due to some space considerations I would like to swap in an electronic speedo from a newer vehicle, is there a speedo sending unit (VSR I think it's called) that will retrofit into a C4 trans? Obviously I will have to use the newer speedometer too but that is a lesser concern. Thanks for any advice you can give.

You are in luck, they do make a Hall effect sensor that will fit the C4 C-6 trannys. I have one on my 56. My 56 has a C6 and VDO gauges. I have also installed a cruise control. It has an electronic sensor for the speedo that plugs right into the C-6 just as the Ford speedo did. IT has a thru way, meaning you can also install a speedometer cable to it. The speedo cable is needed for the speed sensor of the crusie control. If you need more info e-mail me off line.

I realize that VDO and many other aftermarket gauge people make sensors and gauges for my application but my question was 'is there a sensor from a newer vehicle which will fit my C4'? Maybe one I can get from the wrecking yard?

You didn't really say but I'm guessing that your sensor is a VDO unit, is this true? How much was it?
