I need to remove the instrument panel on my 76 F-100 to do some electrical work, but can't get the speedometer cable loose. Is there a secret to it? I need to know before I end up breaking something. Thanks
HillBilly,
You will have to squeeze the plastic ring that attaches the cable to the speedo.
It's not the easiest thing to do. It's much easier the second time. Sometimes you can feel the plastic clip, sometimes you can't. Pull the IP forward far enough so that you can reach behind.
Be patient, but not neccessarily gentle,

Ive busted two of three speedo cables parting out these trucks...
Firm, but Patient... that is the way to go... Also dont think about using any pliers or such... that just gives you something to throw when you break the pinch plastic...
Thanks guys! I got it out, fixed my dash lights and put her back together. I did have a time trying to see the plastic clip that held the speedometer on. I could feel it but not see it, that's why I asked. Thanks again.
