Are dim dashlights just the norm for a 77 F150.
Charging good and light seems even throughout the panal.
Pot is all the way up.
Just asking before I tear into my dash to check voltages etc.
Thanks
You can also remove the blue plastic light diffusers to make them bright yellow.
The Yellow of the filament in the bulb & blue cover makes the green lights.
I had good luck removing the diffusers and using the colored light bulbs you can find at Napa. I installed red bulbs and it looked good, plenty bright. Those diffusers are terrible.
Before you get carried away ripping things out check and make sure that the ford light swith resistor is not damaged if it is it will give you very dim dash lighting, there is a bit of a special way of getting that light swith out there is a little button on the light switch up under the dash on the light switch that you have to push up and then the switch **** and shaft come out as one. Best that you track down a picture first.
Well, the voltage showed 12-14 volts.
The blue lenses I took off and I have a nice bright instrument cluster now.
I don't care about the color.
Thanks everyone.
And thanks Red Ford for the reminder about the button I had to get that out to get the panel off. Also anyone doing this be careful and figure out how to disconnect the speedo (special squeeze trick) and the **** for the windshield wiper control.
My **** for the windshield wiper has a sping on the back that you need put a screw driver againsed and pull the screw driver to the front side of the ****, put in back and pull to you.
Manic, there are several threads about how to remove the ***** already on here.
Every once in a while we get a run of that question
The trick to the headlight shaft is pulling it to the ON position BEFORE you depress the button and pull .(no effort ...it slides right out easily this way)
My dim lights are cured!
1) I removed the diffusers -- can't believe any light goes through them.
2) I painted the inside of the guage bezzel with shiny chrome paint for reflection
3) Standard bulbs shine very brightly
4) Replaced bulbs with led bulbs (from http://www.superbriteleds.com); they're slightly less bright and no ability to dim, but they look really cool. They numbers and needles glow.
