g'day all,
just bought a complete 460 but cant tell what sort of heads are on it, cant see any casting numbers on them but the block is a D9TE. any help???
getuted,
Look just outside of the valve cover rail on the head casting, its located just about in the middle and is facing up at you as you look over the fender. The numbers are cast in raised numbers and will be C8VE (1968 head), C9VE (1969 head), D0VE (1970 passenger heads and same as the previous 2 years in design), D00E-R (SCJ heads, not likely to be found), D1VE, D2VE (Terrible heads), D3VE (similar to the Doves and prior but has a more restrictive ex port, this can be fixed with reincarnation-automotive head porting guide). There is also a Police Interceptor head, I forget its casting number. It is a cross between a D0VE style head and a SCJ stly head in performance. THe head casting number should be in plain sight and easily found, its staring back up at you :]
There are some late model motors especially the big truck motors that don't have the casting numbers on the head. It being a D9 block it is probably a truck motor. Either a 370 or 429. How big is the snout of the crank?
thanks for the replys,
i have found a few numbers on the heads but i don.t know if they mean anything??? under the valve cover there is 7F2, near the spark plug hole on both heads is 58, and under the headnear the chambers is what looks like E2FE8.... any ideas?? oh and the snout is 5 inches. thanks in advance
Could E2FE8 be a 82 model? I never really talk of BBF heads newer than D3 nor have I ever run acrossed the new style aside from the latest years of 460 FI head but I thought they were F7 heads.
