Hello....i came across the website in search thru Google..thought i'd join.....I have a question for anyone out there who may have some info on the PCM, and who i can approach on reprogramming it. My truck is a '98 Ranger, 3.0 litre eng, auto trans, i would like to attempt to change the idle programming characteristics to lower the idle from its present 975rpm to a more user friendly 700rpm, ac in, ac out....the reason for this is the brakes are constantly fighting the trans. when stopped, in gear....the idle is just too high....had to bear with this since i drove the truck off the dealer's lot new...when under warranty, it had been back many times to the dealer to solve this, but the answer i got every time was there's nothing we can do to alter the idle rpm, Ford will NOT let us do it..( note won't let us do it.....not, it cannot be done)....the service manager stated that it can be altered, but Ford would have nothing to do with this.....this truck creeps severely if you take your foot of the brake peddle..is there anyone who knows the software coding and has the ability to write a new program to make this rather simple request?..i'm fed up with the current configuration...thx for any help........55trucker
>this truck creeps severely if you take your foot of the brake >peddle..
That's just a characteristic of an automatic, you want it stopped you hold the brakes, you want it to go you let off the brakes.
thx for the response TJ ........after some 30 yrs on the road i know what the characteristics of an auto trans are......when i say creeps severely.......i mean SEVERELY..........it LAUNCHES!..if you throw the trans into neutral while at a standstill, the eng flares up to approx 1600rpm then settles down at 1000.....the eng idle is set far too high.....
