i have a 2000 explorer and i was wandering if i could hook up my subs and amplifier and if i can w/out buying a new head unit

yeah, ya can, but you need to get a converter from speaker level to line level, $20 @ wal mart last I saw one, Easiest thing is to just get a new head unit, my boss has a 99 Eddie Bauer and the radio in that thing is terrible, It'll sound much better with a new head unit and drop in some better door speakers. Or ya could do like me and just re-wire the whole setup so everything's on an amp (got a 4ch 1000w amp going to all four doors, 2ch 1000w going to the components in my kick-panels, and a 1200w 2ch powering my 4 10's)

It's all about how good you want it to sound.
