This may be an easy request but it may not be. I am looking for a way to increase or up the idle on my 93 F150 V8 5L. Basically since it has turned colder it has started scaring me. When I first start up, it will run at a high idle for a couple minutes which it always has and I let it run it's course. The problem is when that 'choke' or high idle kicks out, it nearly stalls. I also notice it wanting to stall when I let off the gas when slowing down to turn a corner for example.
Is this something I can fix by adjusting the engine idle/rpm's or is that even possible. Any help would be great. 93cc
No adjustments. You need to pull the IAC valve (Idle Air Control) from the TB and clean it thoroughly with carb cleaner. Make sure to remove the sensor from the valve first.
How much of an involved process is this? Would it be stupid to take it to a garage to do this? I'm not much of a mechanic though I'm trying to learn. Where would I find the IAC? Sorry for all the stupid questions but I was told once that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask

Have to agree.....
It's very easy.
The IAC is mounted on the drivers side of the TB. Looks like a small tube with a sensor connected.
Remove the connector. Unbolt IAC (two screws/bolts). Remove sensor from IAC (two scews). Then simply spray inside the valve with carb cleaner. I like to spay plenty inside and work the valve while it's full of cleaner. Shake it a little and let it soak an hour if really bad.
Reverse for assembly. Make SURE the gasket is present and in good condition.
If this takes care of the problem, even for a moment, plan on buying a new one.......soon as this is usually only a temp fix.
What are the odds that I should just go ahead and buy a new one anyways? The truck is almost 12 years old and has about 185,000km/115,000 miles on it. There is a lot of work that has never been done to my truck and I'm not sure that maybe some of that is coming back to bite me.
