Anybody have a CV joint on a 4wd Exp. go out. I have a chirping/squeaking noise from the front passenger wheel side. Speed sensitive. Sounded kind of like a brake wear indicator but the brakes are way too new (and I looked). Sound like a CV joint?
Thanks, Pete

Reason: mispelling
from what I know about cv joints, when they are shot, you will hear a rapid clicking noise, and its only when accelerating and turning, usually sharp turns. Its doesnt sound anything like the squeel of a brake wear indicator.
Take a good look around your CV boots, if they look fine and arent cracked or worn in anyway, then your cvs are probably ok. Joints usually wear if the boot cracks or leaks and the lube works its way out, and moisture and dirt get in there.
Anybody have any other ideas? It is not the brakes, is it bearings, seals, etc.? It is only on the passenger side when rolling. Puting it in 4wd does not change the sound, niether does stepping on the brake or turning. I am baffled.
I just started to get a noise in my drivers side front wheel, like a clicking every rotation, turning or straight. The boots are still good. I have been very busy at work so I haven't gotten any further than that. I'm thinking maybe a bearing, but that is only a guess. Mine is a 99 with 94k. I'll look at it more this weekend.
Thanks for the responses, lugs are tight. I am going to look further this weekend too. I have had several FWD cars and know what CV joints sound like when they are going bad in the classic sense. Just wonder if they can make other noises too. Need to get the wheel turning off of the ground so I can get up close to hear it. I don't have a lift but will figure something out.
