OK. I've been reading on a lot of these Ford messages boards, a lot about installing tachometers into vehicles without tachs.
My question is:
If I have an '87 Ranger 4Cyl/2.3L, and the tach I got from a '88 BroncoII 6Cyl./2.9 is installed to replace to old cluster, I've been told that the tach will read double the rpm. OK, if so, then remember the "old" tach & dwell meters from yesteryear, that had the switch on them for 4cyl/6cyl/8cyl??
If it's that simple, then what circuitry (a resistor?, is so, what value) would need to be placed where, if indeed that is what needs to be done? If not, then what?
Also, the harness plug appears to be reversed, I have the factory wiring schematics, and will attempt to wire as per the diagrams, but before I go that route, I want to make sure I can get the tach to read the proper RPM.
I'm trying do something similar, have the factory 6 cyl tach read a V8 signal. So far I haven't been able to find anything on the web or anywhere else about it. Wouldn't it be nice if Ford had put the 4-6-8 switch in the factory tachs?
