Long Shaft C-6 ???

When looking for a used C-6 to put in my 4X4 I encountered one that was bolted to a 351 M and came out of a 77 150 4X4 . I did not get a look at the transfer case but the owner told me it was also a New Process.

When measuring the length of the output shaft I found it to be about 3 1/2" too
long to bolt up to the converter on the front of my New Process .

I have changed over and around about 23 C-6 Trannys and never seen an animal like this one .

Is anyone familiar with this long shaft model or what married transfer case it is supposed to fit?

Now have a perfectly good rebuilt C-6 sitting in the shop and no idea what it fits as I simply bought one the right length for mine . Any insight would be appreciated .

Nothing special about it. Ford made a long & a short tail shaft C6 for 4x4's.

mark a. Does this long shaft bolt to a transfer case I'm not familiar with or a
different drive line than a standerd '73 to'79 F150 4X4 that came with a 351M?

I have had my Ford since new and changed the tranny 3 times now and installed
10 or 12 with other Ford Guys and never ran into this long shaft before . It will not match up to any of the transfer case converters we have looked at on any other F150 4X4's of this era.

The longer tailshaft c6 uses a longer adaptor between the trans and the t-case. If you are using the short adaptor with the long tailshaft, it will stick out way past the end of the adaptor. Find a long adaptor and replace it, and then it will work on whatever t-case you want, altho you may have to shorten/lengthen your rear and front shafts

Big Changes :

Breeze: just changing to a longer adapter if I could have found such an animal anywhere would have only been the easy part as the F150 married transfer case mounts on the cross member and the C-6 mounts only to the engine and the converter.

I would have to move the cross member, shorten a brand new heavy wall $700
drive shaft on the rear, lengthen a front drive shaft which has already been upgraded fron a F250 rear shaft and reset the drive angle at my diffs to allow for a four inch lift .

The engine could not be muved ahead enough with the towers to facilitate this difference without altering the rad distance .

This is some of the reasons I could not figure out what it was bolted up to in a '77 F150 4X4 with a 351M which I also bought and installed at the same time .
