I just installed EGT, Boost & Trans Temp gauges in my truck. The truck ('99 F250, 7.3) is stock except for a K&N Kit and a Hypertech Programmer III. The readings I am getting on the boost is "0" at idle and easy city driving and 20" at WOT. EGT tempertures are running at 400-600 in easy city driving and up to 1050, WOT sustained for 20 seconds). Are these normal readings? I have a 14,000# 5th wheel I am going to pull on vacation this week and want to make sure all is good before starting on a 4000 mile trip.
I've just bought a 01 F-250,4x4, ex-cab, long bed. It has a 7.3 with auto trans. and 47,000 miles. I work construction (am on the road all the time) so I do get into some dusty areas. I do a little towing, but nothing real heavy at least not yet. I would like to get a little better mileage if possible. A little more power would be nice but it's not that important. I would like some suggestions and please be specific. I am new to this site so have pity on me.
Jammer1, First off welcome to the site. But no one will have pitty on you if you keep thread jacking. You should start your own thread. But I guess we've all done it a time or two. I would suggest a Tymar Intake, straight pipe exhaust and a tuner for the things that you seek. But Like in the start of this thread, you need gauges to monitor your truck more closely so you don't burn it up. Hope that helps.
West, sounds like you are right on to me. But if you have your truck on the highest setting, I would suggest backing it off.
I have the Super Chip in mine, cobalt blue gauges, i installed pyro in the drivers side manifold, i see at 70mph , 2000rpm, 600degrees on egt, around 5-7psi of boost, this is with the 80HP chip installed. WOT not pulling a trailer, i see a spike of 27psi and settles around 25psi.
I would say numbers are normal.
westpsd- your numbers look normal. But your EGT's will jump hard when pulling a trailer. Might want to set your programmer on the lowest setting or even pull it out, you'll have to run it and see where you are safe with your temps. You'll sure love having the gauges though, especially when pulling a trailer. It's nice knowing how your truck is running, and not having to trust the "idiot" gauges on the dash.
