Cure for the Dreaded Pinging, Knocking and Tapping Engine
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-May-02 AT 01:39 AM (EST)]I had for the longest time, that nasty old ping, ping, ping & tap, tap, tap noise when under a load and EVEN on level keel straight-aways my when truck hit 60 MPH + or -. You know, the sound that comes from your engine, like your valves are about to rattle off. Well, I did just about everthing I could think of, short of shooting the engine. I finally had enough and took my truck to the Ford Dealership and they took a look at it and said it need a microprocessor and a ignition coil assmebly and that it would run me about 6 hundred and some change (parts & labor). I about died, seeing that my truck is just over 3 years old, and did I mention that this occured just AFTER the 3 year warranty expired?? Anyway, the nice man at Ford did some research for me and I was able to get it fixed at no charge. Apparently a Technical Bulletin 8-80 warranty applied and then two days later, my 99 Ranger is running like it was when I got it off the showroom floor! So, for all you that think you are doomed, mention the Technical Bulletin 880 for emmissions. Technical Service Bulletins Summary
