No spark

I have a 1975 ford f250 w/390. I am not getting any spark to the plugs or the coil. I have swapped out ignition module on firewall, solinoid, electrical in distributor, and ignition switch. I had put in a new starter Friday and it started right up. This morning it would not start. I noticed that when the key was almost turned back to the off position I would get spark, but no spark turning on. I switched the ignition switch and she started right up. Turned it off and started again and let it run for few minutes. Then all of a sudden it just died, no cough or sputter, just died like no power. It has not started since. It will trun over, but not start. I have replaced everything but the coil it self. Very frustrated spending my whole Saturday working on this truck. Any suggestions, signed hairless.

Is the battery dead from a bad alternator?

No, the battery is charged. I tested the coil and it looks to be good. The coil is getting power it looks like but no spark from the wire that goes from the coil to the distributor. I think there is a short some where but not sure where to start. Thanks

Check the rotor in the distributor and the cap . Does the coil have power to it ?

Double check the connector and each wire going into the back of the ignition switch.Ive seen where one wire doesnt always have full contact and it will drive you crazy trying to figure out why it wont start.Just a thought-it happened on one of my '78s.Good luck!

You might want to check for a bad resistance wire in the ignition hot side.
This resistor is bypassed by the solenoid when cranking, but is placed in series with the ignition primary in the "run" position and may be opening up after it warms up. Also check for bad or missing ground connections.

Does it have tilt steering? Could it be the actuating lever for the ignition switch?

It's a 75 (ignition on the dash) not an 80's truck (ignition on the column.)

In a 75 : Tilt or non-tilt....ignition switch is on the dash.

Continuation of problem

I started this thread about my 1975 F250 starting problem. We fixed the solution by pulling out the electronic module and distributor and putting in a point type distributor. No problems. Now I have a 1977 F250 w/351 that seems to have the same problem. I replaced the electronic box on the side firewall and rebuilt the the carb. She runs ok, then suddenly just dies. This is real frustrating. I have not checked for spark yet, but the problem seems identica to my 75 truck. Has any one out there run in to this before. I don't want to have to switch out distributors again. Thanks for any info you can share.
