is it common to see some rust undeneath the windshield weatherstripping and if i got a new windshield would they reuse the old rubber this is on a 75 f-150
i ran in to the same problem.Mine was on the top of the windsheild. They told me that they would not gauranty any work unless the rust was fixed. As for the old gasket i was told it could be used.It all depends on how good of shape its in good luck
my windshield guy told me "ford had good rubber" as far as the windshield rubber, he reused mine, i still had the original whidshield in from 79...no leaks, no problem, if it looks like its cracked, etc, ask for a new one.
Just had a new one installed three weeks ago, the rubber was new, and the glass was 145.00, install was 45.00. Three days later, my first rock chip, and then some idiot friend of mine was yarding on the rearview mirror for some reason, broke it off, and split the glass pretty much in two...... sigh, good glass was not meant to be
Some cancer like that is pretty typical in that area. I'd have them warrenty that glass from it splitting like that. I had a new one put in that split like that (from going over a bump) and "stress fractures" like that were covered and they replaced it for free. On another note, I have had several glass guys tell me that the replacement glass is not nearly as good as the factory glass.
My new windshield and labor to put it in was 165...i tipped the guy too, and helped him put it in...not too bad for a windshield. By the time the winters over it will be screwed though from gravel, atleast i can see for now.
I have a mint 79 oem windsheild to put in my 79.The only thing I have to get is a new gasket(any good ideas where). Then get a little rust repair done.I"ve seen some gaskets on evil bay.But dont really trust getting one from there
Had the one on my 73 replaced and there was rust on the lower lip. It had actually deterirated a little and he said he would not warranty it. He told me that people that want to do a A1 restoration have a body shop weld a new piece in.
Hi I live in ontario canada and I bought my windsheld and back glass gaskets from J.C.whittney through mail order, with cost , shipping , $ exchange the two gaskets were cheaper than just the windsheld gasket in canada . The quality of the J.C. Whittney products are excellent.
I have the same rust problem in that area. Voided any guaruntees but they used the same gasket and the new windshield works well. I got it from some company in Lawrence, KS. All I know is they drive green vans around and it cost me two hundred bucks. The windshield they replaced was the original. It leaks were the cancer is, but the window is pretty and the gasket functions otherwise. Cost me a hair under two hundred, with a new gasket would have been closer to two fifty.
