Unhappy '99 4.6L electrical?

First, a big THANKS to all who contribute to these forums - you've saved me lots of time & $$ over the years... You guys are so good this is the first time I've had to post.

My '99 Expy 4.6 AWD has 80K miles; at about 60K the odometer would sometime go off while driving, then come back later (hours or days). This continued off & on until I changed my spark plugs (again, THANKS on that one!) at 75K. Everything worked great after that until now...

Last two days I'm getting sporadic electircal issues:
  • turn signals sometimes don't work
  • The 4x4 light will sometimes blink off & on in a regular pattern while driving.
  • The odometer problem is back
Today the problem got worse; I tried to switch to into 4Hi while driving, didn't work (4x4 light continued to blink & no 'clunk' into 4x4)
However, when I came to a stop the 4WD engaged & the 4x4 light went to solid (& turn signals started working!). Stayed that way while driving even when I went back to AWD. Again, when I stopped the 4x4 disengaged & light went back to blinking.
Disconnected battery for 1/2 hour, now everything works perfect again (but for how long....)

Any ideas appreciated, I don't want to spend a fortune at the dealer chasing an electrical gremlin but looks like that might be the path... TIA
Jon
