there is not a harness yet for the 04 through accessories.

we (supplier of DVD, Rail system, and overhead system) are actually going to demo the install of the harness to Ford Accessories group next week. then maybe they will FINALLY release the part number. we are close........

How about the '05's. Is there a DVD system I can install on the rail? How much $$$?

there are a couple options for 05
if you are lucky, or ordered yours with the "dvd prep kit", there is a harness in the headliner ready for the dvd. you can then order the dvd through Ford Accessories and install it in 10 seconds. if you have the audiophile you can order a partial harness that completes the harness route up the B pillar to the dvd. i will try to get that part number which was recently released.

if you have neither of them, then your 05 is in the similar situation as 04's and we are pushing hard to get the full harness released so all rail vehicles can get the factory DVD if so desired.

I am not positive on the retail price but it is equal to, or close to the price of the factory order option which is about $1200-1400. this is more costly than some aftermarket solutions, but they do not come with the Ford 3 year warranty, and full integration with the radio allowing dual simultaneous sources, aux line level input to the radio, control of dvd with radio buttons, and control of radio with dvd buttons as a few examples of some features.

the only time I hear a Peep from my kids in my F150 is when the movie is done. I hit one button on my radio and the movie starts over again.....

hope this helps.

Rambunctious,

We are in deep gratitude to you for keeping us up to date on this. I for one will get the harness for my 04 once you guys release it. I still am holding onto the bill of goods order to add the factory DVD system into my 04 when it becomes available...so please continue to keep us in the loop. In a way, I am lucky that my local dealership didn't have a clue about what it took to install that in a Supercab...otherwise they would have just told me it wasn't available. That and a good deal of persuasion on my part

Ramb, thanks for the info. I do have a hole in the middle of the rails, up front by the lights, and I can see a plug inside there. I hope/assume that is what you are referring to. $1200 though?!?!

Question Looking for that part number....

Did you ever get those part numbers for the wiring harness?

Here is the number for my DVD unit: 4F2T10E947AA3BJA and for the above-the-headliner mounting bracket: 4F2Z 78519K22 AA

I have a '04 EB Explorer with the Audiophile 6 speaker setup, I dont think it has the DVD pre-wire kit but I am not sure...guess I could pull radio and check.

No help from Delphi, Ford parts dept. or internet....

Thanks for any help!
Dan

we are still working with ford to release the harness. this process has taken months but we are very close. i will post with a sticky the minute we get this release.

I don't know much personally about the explorer radios for 04. the key is if the radio is CANBuss equipped. that is the new communication protocol Ford is using. and the reason only the factory dvd works with that radio in the 04-05 F150
the dvd prep kit is somethign we pushed with ford for the rail dvd on the f150. si I don't think the explorer has that.........

lardman, i was told the dvd works with all CANbuss f150 radios. there seems to be a glitch when ordering an 05 and selecting the "prewire kit" though. the option is only $30 or something but when selected bumps the vehicle trim level to Lariat with Audiophile.
I am looking into this to clarrify........

Ramb, what are the three wires in the headliner plug? Black, green, and white/blue.

Ramb, Do "rail mount" DVDs for the Super Crew have 26 pins ?

I really appreciate wll your input and assistance with the DVD installation issues.

I recently purchased a "rail mount" Ford OEM DVD player for my 04 Super Crew. It fits perfectly and color match perfectly. The DVD unit has 26 pins for the cable. Most references that I have seen on these posts refers to a 12 or 20 pin set up. Is the '04 "rail system" DVD player different from conventional roof mount DVD's ?

What is your best guess on the release of the cable ?

Regards, John

Hello. I have the flint (gray) "Rail Mount" DVD player, but I do not see a part number. The DVD player is attached to the housing that mounts it and I suspect the part number is under that housing. Of course the whole thing assembled with some mystical metric half size tork fittings that no normal human being would ever have or want to have in his tool chest (but will likley have to buy at some point....)

From all my research.. the bottom line is that a cable to hook this thing up is not currently available from Ford, and until one is, it is unlikely that this unit can be operational. The cable does exist, of course, but Ford has not made it available as an individual item (it keeps us being DVD players from Ford and not from ebay.) Supposedly Ford is releasing a cable, but no official notification of that release or part number exists at this point.

If I find a part number I will let you know. Right not go with an aftermarket DVD player. They are cheaper and they work fine.
