hey this might be a dumb ? since ive never seen one b4. but i have a c6 behind a 351m, that has a 3.25 rear end in it. i was wondering if there is a lock up torque converter out there for the c6. i wanna try and get some better gas milage and i think that would help. plus i dont want to go any higher on the rear end thanx for the info
I asked about this a long time ago and have been told that a lock-up converter is not possible in a C6. It makes sense to me because trans with lockup converters have electronics to control them and the C6 doesn't have any electronics.
I have a chevy malibu (1980 model) that has a lock-up tc and no electronics. It uses a vaccum swtich, and delay valve to control when the lock-up occurs. It has a bad habit of locking it up at 25mph (think goin from second to fifth in a manual), so I put a switch on it so I can control it..
It takes a lot of internal passages in the tranny to control a lockup converter that just don't exist in a C6. There were some mechanical lockup torque converters for some of the lightweight trannies but I don't know if they would hold up in a C6 application.
yeah i know u can get a gear vendors or a us gear drives but for the money that im going to spend there i can get built aod and adaptor and do it the right way
The AOD built up does well with HP (RPMs) but the bigger parts in a C6 handle torque. As long as you don't build the 351M you should be OK with an AOD.
TCI should have directions for setting up the TV cable. If that TV cable isn't perfect it will certainly trash the AOD. It seemed to be a pretty micky-mouse setup.
in the tech articals there is a artical that talks about how to do this the right way. he used a aod and he had a built 460 in front of it so im not really worried about putting my measly little 351 in front of a well built one
Not me... I would not couple a regular 460 and an AOD. I don't care how well the AOD is built. It might "work" for a while like a lot of things that get done out there. Sounds like a short life for the transmission.
