What demented SOB came up this riveting in the doors? (OK that was my venting) I have a 1997 F-250 Crew Cab. And one of the rear power window motors is just not working any longer. I have tested the switches, and made sure there is power. I can hear the motor click when I use the switch in either direction. So I feel it’s the motor burned up or frozen. How the heck do you replace the motor? I have the door panels all off and all the plastic removed. But the rest is all rivets. What the heck do I do now? Help and suggestions are great appreciated.
I use a cut off wheel to cut an X in the revit being careful to only cut the head of it and not the door panel. Next with a hammer and chisel knock off the remaining revit head. These things are real hard, if you try to drill it the bit usually pushes off to one side. The unit can be reinstalled with bolts, I replace the revits with new ones.
Figures, Cut the buggers. Well that would be the only option. Just didn't like the idea. Should I look at cutting them all out? That motor looks to be all the way in the hidden corners. From the usless Chiltions "Support the window then remove regulator". Good advice but lacking real help. I'm trying to do the least amount of damage to the door. And it's going to be a long weekend of cutting.
my bro inlaws 95 F-250 was riveted. In fact all the fords I've done are. I used my dremle with a grinding wheel . ground them all carefully flush. Then I popped them in with a punch. You will have to take the unit out of the door to change the motor.pain in the but. But not hard.Later gator.
I used my angle grinder and cut down all but one rivet. Then simple drift to knock out what was left. Then the hard part, removing of the regulator. What a nightmare. After all that found that the motor gear was just bound up. Removed the actual motor, and it started working again. I then took some nuts and tack welded them on the back side of the window regulator and re-installed with 7/16 x 1/2 inch long screws. Also found that the windows didn't slide very well from being pinched in the guides. I have seen so much better designs than this. Oh and the motors are made by Bosh.
(HEY FORD, IF YOUR GOING TO RIVET IN PARTS, MAKE SURE THEY ARE GOOD ONES!)
