If I add a K&N filter to my 7.3 ltr 2000 F250 will I notice any effects even though I have a tornado air flow systme already in place? Currently I only get about 12-14 mpg.
Before you buy a K&N, you might look at Airaid. They filter better their claims are down to 2 microns. I just installed one on my wife's 04 Trailblazer. I ran K&N for years and was not happy about the amount of dirt that gets by them.
Your question was worded in a way that states you care about mileage vs. your ET in the quarter. The K&N filter won't have any advantage over the stock paper filter in your situation.
I understood the theory of the 'Tornado' in older carbureted cars where the valves had shrouding issues that were unintentional engineering aspects, and a spin on airflow would help the fuel blend better with the air, but nowadays I think the Tornado either doesn't do anything for combustion chamber burning, or it hurts it, and I don't believe it would have virtually any effect on air/fuel blending, due to the proximity of the injector to the combustion chamber.
OH, but you have a diesel... Why do you have a Tornado?? That's for gassers.
Just my humble opinion.

Reason: re-read the original post and...
There's absolutely no use for the Tornado device. K&N filters work well with carbureted vehicles, because they will smooth airflow into the venturii's which aid in metering efficiency. With fuel injection, this is totally unneccesary. I've got oil sample analysis results to prove what K&N's will do to your oil. It's still cost effective for carbureted engines, because even if it costs you an early rebuild, the fuel efficiency increase will happily pay for an early rebuild. Change your paper filters often, and your performance will be nearly identical and your oil and bearings will stay healthy, longer. TK
