Question answer me this.

so ive been thinkin about a fipk kit, and I know its not gunna make my truck do wheelies down the road and such, but ive done the exhaust mods among others. I hear the down side to these is the hot air they suck from under the hood. well what about all the muscle cars and trucks from the old days sucking hot air from under the hood? Is it a carb vs FI issue? whats the deal? I tow a tourn-ski boat and every little bit helps. 94 f150 5.0 E40D 4WD

i can't think of what fipk stands for but anything that adds more air and/or cooler air will help power! I know cai is cold air intake but this fipk stuff hummm??

i got this figured out! Filtercharger injection performance kit. I will tell you how to did it the cheap way to make this kit. First buy a KN filter for your truck and second remove the air silencer(not the box but the crap up to it). That should leave a 3 inch hole in the box and you will have the filter so you will have one just as good. Heck due to the hole i am willing to bet airflow velocity is increased thus increasing horsepower.

Im not too worried about the cash, but I hear some people swear by them and others dont like them, they talk about the hot air from the moter being used and hampering performance, because the factory uses plumbing from the outside to deliver cold air, or colder anyway. cars didnt allways have intakes from the front, out of the engine compartment.

Anything getting air from outside the engine compartment will be cooler and make more power, yes. But the the open filter draw in more air. So the more airflow might be negated by the fact that its warmer(its like a tradeoff). These companies don't care! It's about making money. The best thing to do if your inlet gets cold air in your vehicle is to just replace the filter. But if you already suck warm it doesn't matter then and you gained from increased airflow.

sounds like a wash. my air box is still all stock, but what if I put in the open k&n fipk kit in and leave part of the factory plumbing in place to where it would blow the outside cooler air on it. might reduce air temp a little.

Steve that might work! If you want the FIPK inlet tube to the throttle body that would be a good way but i would just buy a performance if you plan on using existing hardware. That way you can keep you cool air, get a good filter, and save money over the fipk. its your money though!

on my application, it doesnt come with a new tube, it pretty much just comes with a huge cone filter and an adapter to deal with the mass air sensor. man, it sure makes it look like it would suck alot more air with that big open filter.

anybody else know of why there would be such a difference from a fipk sucking warm air, than an older vehicle with the traditional top of the engine air cleaner?

There isn't...older engines just have an inefficient air intake because of the style of air filter they liked to use on carbs. They're sucking in warm air too...did I mention how much I enjoy my ram air hood?

For the true muscle cars, see.. shaker hood, cowl induction, ram air etc...
