I'd imagine an OEM replacement could cost around $150 but it'd be OEM quality and not a Chinese-made replica that lasts a year and then dies. I will personally go out of my way to get OEM Motorcraft parts like this (fuel & ignition) because I've had really bad luck with the aftermarket knock-offs.
You're also paying for diagnosis and probably towing, too.

Thanks...Tow bill is separate already paid that $76.00
First time I've ever heard of a bad MAF. I know they combined the air flow sensor and ambient air temperature sensor in one unit. They can be cleaned "sometimes" if dirty using "only" the proper cleaning products.
Bill, MAFs do go bad... albeit rarely. An earlier post told of the importance of buying OEM instead of cheap knockoff. This is one of the few parts that I am firmly in support of buying OEM only.
My experience is that dirty air filters and sometimes K&N filters that have been over-oiled can contribute to MAF sensors failing. They can be cleaned but I have not found a video or PDF showing an Escape MAF cleaning.
ROCKAUTO has Motorcraft remanufactured MAFs for $82.79 + $75.00 refundable core charge. Replacing the MAF isn't a terribly difficult job so long as you know where it is and don't get any nasties in the air intake tubing.

IIRC, one of those after market air cleaner/filter systems can void your warranty.
