engine heater--which one should I use?

I've been looking online and I have found several different types, but am unsure which type would be the best for me. I've seen the oil dipstick, oilpan magnet, and freeze plug types. I'm looking for one that would leave the electric plug hanging on the grill so that I could simply plug it in at night. Any experience here?

That would be the freeze plug type if I recall correctly. It's the "permanent" solution that you are looking for.

I put one in yesterday. (Freeze plug type) Easy to install, but you get coolant everywhere. And yes the cord hangs out the grill.

I had a 90 Bronco with a plug hanging down and I had to ask someone what it was for.

So this is something that the normal shadetree mechanic coud accomplish? Sounds like the way to go to me!

Yes, it's easy to do. You won't have a problem as most of the kits come with explicit instructions but you will get coolant all over the place, so, be prepared
