Welding vs. the Computer

My '02 ST has running boards, and the wonderful attachement point is just a threaded bung in the sheetmetal... Lets just say that I am not the easiest on my truck, so there's been a rattle on the passenger side rear for quite a while. Well, the sheetmetal is cracked around the threaded bung and just under the bottom of the pan. So I need to weld in a patch to strengthen the area and silence the noise. What, if any, precautions do I need to take so I don't fry the computer? Unhook the battery, etc?

Any info would be appreciated.

Tyson

The computer is on the firewall above the heater box on the passenger side. Look for a bundle of wires running across the top of the firewall and ending on a plug with a 11mm(I think) bolt in it. Take the bolt out - the plug will come with it - and take the catch plate off (2 10mm (I think) nuts with a plastic plate). Then just pull the computer out. Might want to disconnect the battery also...
