Highboy, How much Higher????

I'm gonna lift my truck and was wondering how much higher did the high-boy sit than the 78-79's? 2" or 3"? I'm gonna put the highboy springs in the front and buy new springs from a lift company if not to expensive. Otherwise i'll find a lifted one out in the Junkyard and pullem off it. Can anyone who has a stock 73-77.5 can you measure the top of the front fender opening to the ground?

Aaron, I believe the older F250's got most of their lift by means of the block in back. I may be wrong here but I think the springs are all narrower on the "highboys" than on the later F250's so I'm not sure this would work. You might look into getting F350 front springs as they'll give you a few inches of lift up front. The F250 springs have a negative arch which is why they look flat.

a more acurate measurement would be from top of fender to center of axle hub, on account of tire size differences.

Top of fender to center of axle hub on the front is 33"

the rear is 25" from center of axle hub up to the lip of fenderwell.

these measurements are from my stock 75 f250 4x4 with factory springs and body mounts.

I hope this helps you out.

Ivan, i checked out the highboy front springs on a add-a-leaf site and they said 67-79 front springs were the same 3". Should i just have the front re-arched in the front or buy new(dang shipping is outragous) to get rid of the negative arch. i only have 2 leafs up front. how many did your stock one have?

thanks for the measurements dots.

i'm trying to decide what to go with. should i got 33's or 35's? the problem is that i have 16" rims not 16.5". i wish they would have put 16.5's on it then i would have a greater selection of tires. this baby won't be no mall cruiser i'm gonna have fun with her. A couple mud pits, hills, anything that i can get dirty it! he he he lol. I'm leaning towards the 35's. What would be a good tire for me. i will do some haulin, off-roading, and quite a bit of on-road driving. I work construction so it will see a lot of dirt. i don't want a loud tire(if thats possible) and i don't wanna pay a lot (preferrably 150 or less a tire). I saw the Mud Rover's, any input on those? Any other suggestions?

my highboy has something like 6 leaves under the front end and around 9 under the rear. im not sure exactly cuz i dont have the truck here to look at right now but im pretty sure thats what it is. you could use the springs from a highboy on your truck but these highboys ride so godawful i dont know why you would want to.

i think thats why they ride so bad. mine rides almost like a car. i can't remember what i have in the rear. but 2 compared to 6 is a big difference. thats probably how they get their height. i am willing to get the crap beat out of me to make my truck look better though. (The things a guy puts up with to help his truck look better) they have a front air ride kit for our trucks thats supposed to help the stiffnes of the highboy. I'm thinking of removing a leaf from the highboy pack and installing the air bags in front. We'll see how it goes first.

This is for the post on having 16" rims and not 16.5's now days you will have more of a selection with 16's there very few companys that even make 16.5's tires. I just put 35/12.50/16's on my 76 250 hiboy 4x4. Even the Big 3 don't even offer 16.5's anymore So do some research ask your local tire company what tires you can put on your rims if your gonna run 35's then you need at least 16x8 or 16x10's.

your right. i've been looking around for tires and i have found 3 times more tires for 16's then 16.5's. I was thinking about some major offroad tires but now i am not gonna make it a total off road driver. It's my Daily Driver. And it's been in the family it's entire life and was bought off the showroom floor. it wasn't out among the others. It was a beautiful truck back in the day. With the Explorer Tangarine and Beige stripes and the bed rails and the chrome everywhere. White ext with Red int. I'm not gonna off-road it as much as i was thinking at first. It's too special. i'm going with a 3" lift in the back and a 4" lift in the front to even it out a bit more.
