From what I've picked up here, you don't ever want to rev a 300I6 past 4000. I don't think I've ever gone higher than 3600. My 87 F150's stock tach redlines at 5700 - I can't imagine reving it that high! Thing would sound like a jet taking off! I bet it would handle it though - if you haven't heard, 300I6's are overbuilt and nearly indestructable.
With the stock cam, all is said and done at 3600, anything beyond that and it's just making noise.
Personally, my 300 saw 7000 rpm a few times, but, it was very far from stock....
ok lets say stock goes above 3200......i wouldn't think that would blow it up....i don't have a tach in mine....but i also don't rev it up or race in it
I shifted my 79 F-100 Ranger with 300 I-6 at 6000 RPM daily. It had offy intake, headman headers, Holly 600 with vacuum secondaries, crane rv type cam.
My owner's manual says 4000.... It sounds about right because it just about signs off around 3500 anyways... Mine has seen about 5000 when I blew out a u-joint but it still runs fine as far as I can tell.... It has about 216,000 miles and has a bit of a knock anyways...
