I have seen these on E-bay and they are noticably different than the stadard FE oil baffles (the ones that mount under the shaft stands). What do they do different and are they needed/ worth it?
The long fingered ones are the early ones. They do help oil drainback but some late model and aftermarket intakes/head combos interfere with the "fingers". You can trim and bend them to fit though....G.
So do you think I should get them for my engine? It has a C-8AEH/D-2TEAA head combo right now with factory type adjustable rockers on new stock shafts, with the aluminum shaft stands.
Are these for a engine your currently running? Are you having drainback issues? These were pretty much standard for the earlier FE's with the lowriser heads and intake. The problem is the lowriser intake has some of the intake by the pushrod holes machined to clear them. Later and aftermarket intakes are setup for the newer style deflectors without the finger drainbacks and were not all clearanced for the older style. That said you can modify the baffles to fit by trimming and rebending them to avoid pushrod and intake clearance problems or having to grinding the intake to clear. Some will swear by them and some run the later ones and some run none at all. Some will say they cause problems dumping to much oil back through the pushrod area. I don't think Ford would have used them in HP applications if there were problems like this. I think the deal was rather than tooling a new style baffle with fingers for the MR and later heads and manifolds THAT FIT they modified the exsisting one to eliminate the fingers as they are identical otherwise. This is pure speculation on my part but makes sence as they were always looking for a better solution cost effectively speaking. So to make a long story short yes I think they are worth the extra effort and do help. I've watched a few run with a cut valve cover to see if they worked better and from what I noticed they work. The oil has a more directed passage instead of the overall overflow by the later non finger style. Sorry for rambling on so. G.
Thanks, I guess I will have to wait for a set to pop up on E-bay... I am wanting to dump way to much of what little money I have into this thing again.
