Pretty sure it's 4 wheel. 2 wheel was a passing thing when ABS first made the market.
Look at the brake controller where all the tubes come out. You'll find four, one for each corner.
Or, just find some wet pavement and stand on the brakes.
I recommend doing this anyway if it's new to you, especially if it's your first ABS vehicle. Some people are surprised by the noise and feel of ABS and you don't want that surprise in conjunction with another surprise.
On my 2000 E150 the rear brakes are serviced by one line (only 1 flexable hose) I thought that they call it "4wabs" even though the rear wheels are both controlled together.. anyone?
I will have to check out my brake controller when the sun comes back out...
'94 should be RABS only. The light in the dash should read REAR ABS. If not see if there is a sensor in the back of the dustshield on behind the front rotors.
On my E150 '93 there should be RABS, and there is a sensor wire on the diff.
I believe that the control unit should be in front of the passengers knees, but there is only one electronic unit there, not two, as in the book.
Is it possible, that the RABS unit was simply removed by a previous owner?
Is the only consequence that there is no rear ABS, and the brake system just works as a conventional system?
Thanks,
Cor
PS: if so, is the RABS unit expensive?
In the '93 is should be all one unit. The sensor in the rear tells the computer the rpms of the tires, and then tells the transmission when to shift. It also senses when the brakes are applied hard and pulses the pressure for the anti-lock.
My van has the AOD transmission, so that is not electronically controlled, I think. So this RABS might be in that case a separate stand alone unit?
There should be 2 control units according to my book, the other one is for the wiper control module. The wipers work according to plan.
RABS I have never tried out, but there is a loose connector passenger side, and only one controlunit fitted.
Further thoughts?
