Has anyone been able to replace the fuel pump pressure regulator without having to tear the intake off (I guess that is what it is called?) I was checking I think I can get some long Allen wreches into the socket head screws? Was just wondering if it can be done without taking everything off?
hey, i got your email and i sent a reply, but im not sure if i was supposed to reply to that address or not. anyway, i think i also have to do my pressure regulator, cause i also have a 4.9 88 f250 (2wd) and whenever i start it up it always stalls the first time. but when i start it again it keeps running. also i notice if i turn the key to run and let it sit for like 30seconds it will start fine. so im guessing it has to build pressure. who knows it might be the fuel pump? anyway whats yours doing? how do u know that you need the pressure regulator?

Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator does it have fuel in it? If so replace it. First do you have any trouble codes? See www.fordfuelinjection.com for getting codes. If you get code 11 then test the fuel pressure. Do you have two fuel tanks on your truck, does it do it on both tanks? 87 f150 4.9
nah i only got one tank. yes i do get a check engine light but i never bothered to check for codes. im not sure when ill actually get around to diagnosing and fixing this problem, right now its just a pain in the ***. actually the guy i bpught the trucl from said he owned it for a little over a yuear and he always had that problem. so it might not even get worse than it is. but thanx for the suggestions anyway!!!
Thanks for the replies I am going to try to get the regulator off without taking the intake off. I know the regulator is bad it has gas coming out of it where the vacuum hose hooks onto it.
Well I was able to get the fuel pump pressure regulator off without taking the intake off. Boy what a job not one of Fords better ideas to put the regulator there,
It was had on the knuckles and everything else.
I did manage to break a pink colored vacuum line going from a relay to some type of a valve located at the right fron of the engine. The line was inside of the wiring harness under the fuel pump pressure regulator and it run along the engine.
