What is involved in replacing the Timing Chain Cover in an 89, 5.8 Windsor FI.
I had the Water Pump replaced and the shmucks [mechanics] broke the three bolts on the top half. They had to drill em out and obviously damaged the timing chain cover cuz coolant is leaking from behind it. Just wanna know what is involved.
Not too bad. Getting to it is most of the work. Make sure you get a good seal between the bottom of the cover and the drain pan (if my memory serves me correctly). You will need a new cover gasket and the crankshaft seal. If you have high miles, you might want to consider installing a new timing chain - they stretch over time and can throw the valve timing off a little.
get a haynes manual it will give ya step by step instructions. but you basicly have to remove the fan, waterpump, crank pully and then timing cover. you may also need to remove the power steering/ac bracket. not sure
Yea, like I said the dumb azz mechanincs who tried to replace my Water Pump damaged the cover. They're going to be replacing it. Just wanted to know what was involved incase they conjure up the cojones to try and charge me. Thanx guys.
