I am about to tear down my 2000 4.6 windsor sohc (expedition). I believe my timing chain set is messed up. I have done other engine timing chains and was a mechanic but had a couple questions.
1) is there a diference between a romeo chain set and windsor when I order it
2) are the cam locks needed if I am careful
3) what is a reputable place to buy a good chain set (ie cloyes etc) without over paying
4) is it true the windsor cam sprockets are pressed on and if so any trick to removing them
5) will cobra 4valve windsor heads bolt to my engine (just a fun question, not as important)
6)any performance sugestions while my engine is this far broken down that give good results?
Thanks to anyone who reply. Any other notes on timing chains and tricks will be greatly apreaciated
Well I went to Cloyes and got an exact fit for my truck. As far as the diference between Romeo and Windsor, Cloyes had different part numbers. Maybe its a timing marking reason, not sure but made sure to get the "Windsor" set. If you want to see pictures of an ate up tensioner arm click on the link.
Anyone hearing a slapping, knocking grinding sound near the front of their valve covers may find this useful. I had a hell of a time diagnosing the sound.
