Gas mileage issue

This is my first post here as a new member and Ford owner.

I just purchased a 2004 Explorer XLT with 4.0L V6.
My gas mileage is averaging 12-13 miles per gallon mixed driving.
Has anyone experienced the same or similar? What can be done to
help improve it.

mileage

My wife gets 19 to 19.8 driving to work, which is 75 miles round trip. She has 6000 mi and I hope to get better.

Thanks for the response. I actually figured out my problem. There is nothing wrong with the vehicle, althought there was something wrong with me and doing the math manually. I am actually getting 18 - 19 mpg. In the future, I'll have a calculator with me.
