My Dad has a chance to upgrade from a 96 F150 EXTcab, 302, 3.55rears, 4x4 loaded. To a 98 F150 EXTcab, 4.2L, 3.08 rear.
He just has to trade his truck and $700 in sales tax.
His main motivation is gas mileage. He tows a 3000 boat. What do you think of the V-6 engine? How is the mileage?
we have a 4.2 v6 in our 2000 ford f150 long bed it
gets 20-22 mpg with a 5 speed and it towed a 2000
pound trailer with a vw beetle on it I think all
to gether it was abought 3000 pounds any way it
took off in second gear and pulled like it was
nothing and this is a STOCK nothing done to it
truck!
I have a 4.2 and 5 speed in my 97 SC longbed. I am lucky when it gets 19mpg empty and gets around 12-14mpg when towing my car trailer with a 4000 lb. load. And this is on the flatlands of Illinois.
Have a 4.2 5spd and don't get the mileage I think I can, even though I drive conservatively. What is the MAF, and which sensors need to be looked at or replaced?
Located between the air filter housing and intake. there are many companies that have after market high volume MAF which allow more air and you get a less choking effect on your motor along with better performance. you may also consider reprogramming or replacing the chip if you do this upgrade. although I have not done this upgrade I have been considering it.
