Door Unlocking Issues

I have read several posts, and all of you have valuable information. Thanks!

My issue is with putting my '04 F-150 Screw into park and getting all of the doors to unlock without using the button on the door. I have checked the manual, and it does not describe how to set this function (if there is one). And out of fairness, before anyone asks if I checked the child safety locks, I did. This is a common feature that I have had on my last 5 vehicles, and it seems strange that there is no documentation on this subject.

Any assistance on this would be appreciated.

Does it lock them automatically when you put it in gear or start moving? If not then you may not have that feature. I had a 93 Aerostar that locked and unlocked them as you put it in/out of park. My now 99 Mountaineer locks them when I start rolling after putting it in gear and doesn't unlock them when I stop and put it in park.

Personally I don't have a problem with it not unlocking.... My door opens when I pull the door handle, regardless of if it is locked or not...

Yes, dtupac, I am referring to the back doors... I haven't seen any documentation on it, and every newer vehicle that I have owned in the last 10 years have unlocked the doors when placing the vehicle in park. (or at least you had the option to do that if you chose)

If anyone knows of a way to turn on this feature.. please share.

I would like to have the unlocking feature on the back doors as well. You would think that they would open when pulling on the door handle if you do not have the child locks engaged, but they don't. The way things are now there is no use for the child locks. The locks act like child locks 100% of the time.

I'm dredging up this old post to see if there was any progress made.

This weekend, my passengers in my SCREW couldn't get the doors open from the inside. When the pulled the door handles from the inside with the doors locked, the doors would not open.

In every car/truck I've owned, even if the doors were locked, and you pulled the handle from the inside, the doors would open. On my BMW and VW, it required two pulls, one to unlock the doors, one to open them.

Is this normal? Seems like it could be dangerous, like after an accident or something.

The doors work the same way even with the child safety door switches off.

With the child lock ON, the back doors can not be opened from the inside whether they are locked or unlocked. With the child lock OFF, you can open the back doors from the inside after unlocking them.

This isn't a "child safety lock" issue. It is an issue that the back doors do not have a automatic locks/unlock, and if you are in the back seat someone in the front has to unlock the door... at 30+K, this is foolish.

I despise the auto-locking feature when I put the truck in drive and take my foot off the brake. I'm getting in the habit of instantly re-unlocking the doors immediately after the stupid truck locks the doors. Just one more lawyer-induced aggravation, like the huge red warning stickers on my house window screens and warning labels on my lukewarm cup of coffee from Mickey D's.

Just bring your truck back to the dealer and claim the rear door locks are defective. The doors won't open. Ask them to make it so the doors will open. These are not police cruisers and there is no reason to lock people in the back seat. I can be claustrophobic and would freak if I were stuck in the back seat of a car and the door handle didn't work.

RTFM? Or just too lazy to disable it?
