I have a 90 F250 7.3 4x4. Its on its 3rd E4OD. First lasted until 139,000. Then was rebuilt. New torque, upgraded valve body, etc. That lasted until 170,000. Then front seal blew out. Before it blew it started shifting soft between 2 and 3, and could not stay in overdrive between 40-50. Also reverse was really fast, like the torque was locked or something. Anyway the current trans is a ford replacement unit, low miles, was from a reputable salvage yard I know. I installed it and forward shifting is still soft and wont hold overdrive as before. The Throttle pos. sensor is now new as is the speed sensor. A scan brings up no codes. Any idea what to look for? This is my 4th 7.3 ford and the first with an auto.
Re-set the (fipl)throtle pos sens as follows. On a warmed up engine, place the neg lead of a meter to the neg batt post, the pos lead to the center wire of the filp plug(use a paper clip or such to push into the back of the plug as the plug must be connected to set).Turn on the key and check the voltage, you will be looking for 1.05-1.1 volts. If its not there loosen the 2 torx screws in the filp and rotate it to get the proper voltage.Once done check the wide open throtle reading,it should be min 3.8-max 4.3 volts.Test drive and see how it feels,if its not what you want adjust again untill you find the spot that works for your driving habits.Try to keep it inside the min-max settings.
Adjusted like you mentioned. Idle was .744, full throttle was 3.63. Set to 1.11 and 4.23. Raised the shift points to engine redline. Still jumps in and out of overdrive at 45 or so mph.
I saw a thread in here somewhere about tach sensor. Will check it out now. Thanks for the info.
