The 99 was destroyed by a tornado in Wisconsin in August of 2000.
It was only 1 year old.
It was lifted up and dropped across a parking lot with my dog inside. I was traveling at the time. My wifes family lives out there. All the windows were blown out except the windshield which was broken. The car was full of water from severe rain. The water was running out of the speakers and dashboard. The headliner was soaked and punctured with glass and stones from the ground. The paint looked like it was sandblased with gravel. In a way it was.
The dog survived by hiding half under my drivers seat from behind it. He's a 94 pound airedale terrior named Riley. He is still with me today.
I watched the entire thing happen from inside of the building I was in. I went out to get the dog out even though people tried to stop me. I ended up being picked up and landing on my face while being pummeled with the stone and glass flying around.
I ended up with little cuts from the glass. The dog had nothing wrong except the little glass squares in his fur.
Then it moved on to tear the top of the building completely off across the street from us.
Now hear this---After it was safe to go back outside I went back to the truck which magically had it's lights on and it started first try. All the interior electronics didn't work right but I drove it to the dealer.
Allstate came to my aid quickly got us a rental and sent an adjuster. He looked at it and said "Totaled". I was heart broken.
The rental could not be taken back to PA where I live. Allstate settled quickly and I picked up a check in Milwaukee and was sitting in my 2000 Expy 6 days and $8000 of my own money later. The 8 grand was because the 99 had 35K miles on it and the new truck had everything in it. Both were E.B.'s.
I give koodos to the truck for being Ford tough and Allstate for helping me so quickly considering I was 1000 miles from home.
If you're looking for a softer, cushier ride, you might look at the Monroe Reflex shocks. I put them on a truck a year ago and at first did not like them because they were so soft. But after a while I got used to them and now enjoy the plush ride. Great if you do a lot of highway driving, not the best for off road or hard cornering action.
Bob- Glad your pup was ok. Sounds like quite an ordeal.
Monroe Reflex sounds like a soft shock, but the problem is that I can't find any manufacturer that makes a replacement for the 03-04 Expys. I do not have air suspension.
I can't imagine what the dealership has in mind to "fix the problem". I hope he doesn't tell you to trade it in on a Navigator! Anyway, let us know.
hey guys. got my 04 exp.eb back from the dealer today after nine days in the shop for some rattles and what iconsidered stiff and or rough ride. they took care of the rattles but told me that they thought the rattles were making me think the ride was rough and that they drove it and that the ride was just fine.i dont know what to do now....
later,
lee
Lee- Two things you can do now to help improve the ride. The first is dump the Contintnental tires in favor of Michelin. The second is experiment with tire pressure. I keep mine 32 psi front and 34 rear. These two things helped my ride a lot.
