No, performance and cheap don't go together. The other thing is what kind of engine do you have? Nobody can advise you anything without that kind of information. What kind of budget are you working with?
Well lilbob what kind of a budget are you working with? If you can afford the need for speed, a lot of people will help. At the very least you will need to get some aftermarket heads and an aftermarket cam to notice any real benefits, you may want to consider a stroker application. If your budget is too tight for any of this, I have only one solution. Save your money.
How small is your budget? Headers will give you your best bang for the bucks. They are not going to make the engine lightning fast. They will help with your fuel economy, so I guess they end up paying for themselves eventually. Figure on 1 to 2 miles per gallon better. My best advice is to save your money. When you have accumulated enough of Mr. Green, then go for some decent heads, and an aftermarket cam, maybe even a stroker kit.
what exactly is a strocker kit? ive heard the name but never heard what it is. i am just trying to see what options there are i dont have very much money right now im just seeing what i can save up for.
A stroker kit basically allows more of the cylinder area to be used thus giving you more cubic inches. There is no replacement for displacement. You may be able to pick up a stroker kit for $1500.00, a pair of World Products Windsor R 180 heads for $939.00, a k-kit from Comp Cams $430.00, Roller Rockers, some type of ignition box like MSD or Jacobs. Very important: When you pick a cam, pick one that will suit your driving needs, ie if you spend much of your time driving in the city you will want a cam that conforms well to that type of driving (Operating range 1000-5200 rpms).
