i need to replace both brake lines from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve the original size was 3/16'' tube with 1/4'' fittings except for one fittingwhich was 3/8'' can i use 1/4'' tube with a 1/4'' to 3/8'' adapter
I used an adapter on my new brake lines where I did not have the old fitting to flare in. I put the adapter at the porportioning valve and it seems to have seated well as I have no leaks or air getting into the system. I found the brass adapter fitting at Napa.
Going to a larger tube will make your brakes "softer". Brake fluid is very slightly compressible and the larger tubing swells and stretches more under pressure. The effect is small but if you find your brakes don't feel as "hard" you know why.
The flare for the 1/4" tube may not fit the fitting seat properly.
Why not just use the 3/16" line and get the correct adapter? I know that they are sold, Edelmann make's them.
I gotta agree with Torque, I would not put the bigger line on.
On edit::: Are you sure that is 3/8"? I thought the correct size would of been a 9/16-18 thread. The part # for Edelmann I think is 258340.
I need to replace my rear line from the prop valve all the way back. I checked for an adapter fitting at Napa and I think it was 9/16-20 thread, but I could be mistaken. So, I can use an adapter like this to downsize from the big hole in the prop valve to 3/16" tubing?

Edit: it's a '79 F150 long bed 2wd if it matters
Yes you can, I could be wrong on the size, it very well might be 9/16-20. It has been a long time since I have messed with the adapters.
i just redid my 77 f350. napa had all the adaptors. thay have a new line out that is greenish in color and doesn't kink as you bend it. all the adaptors suck.
