I have a 1995 Ranger 2wd 4cyl Auto
115000miles original motor and trans.
I read on a post that there is a VSS on the pumpkins on the differentials on Rangers. Is that different than the VSS that comes off the output shaft of the transmission? I don't have ABS, but is there still some sort of ABS sensor on my truck? I don't want to replace the torque converter if it's just a sensor that needs replacing.
I can't tell if it's going into Overdrive or not. Seems like it's revving pretty high at about 60mph. (sounds like around 3000rpm)
It's leaking a bit of tranny fluid onto the exhaust. It shifts fine through the gears, and sometimes it seems like it's in Overdrive, but the O/D off button doesn't seem to affect the revs. Please help!
95 Ranger should have rear only ABS. The problem may be with your modulator. Do you notice smoke on start up? My 94 only smoked a small amount on start up or during a heavy load (towing). The modulator was around $20.00 and you can do it yourself.
It sounds like to me it isn't finding overdrive. My ranger when its still in 4th runs exactly 3000 RPM's at 65 MPH, and 2500 at 55 MPH. Overdrive at 55 is about 1850 RPMs and 65 is about 2400-2500 RPMs. Might want to check it out
Hey Rockledge any chance of helpin me out 1 on 1 with a problem on my 91 2.3? I'm on my last nerve with an ignition problem and you seem like you're the one to talk to. Thanks a bunch.

Send me an email with a quick note, and I will reply and send along some 2.3L pinpoint tests and other diagnostic info.
