I've got the chance to get an 85 quadravan built by ford for the military to be used in the arctic, It has about 35k miles on it and is painted orange w/some identifying numbers on the doors or fenders. It has 37" tires on it.
My Q is does anyone here know about these specialty vans and maybe any pros or cons about them.
Is it a Quigley Conversion? I have a 96 and it's great! Coming up on 200K and runs like a top and uses no oil. 4WD system is nicely integrated and looks factory.
i guess i wont be joining you guys after all. that thing was a piece!!! 85 or 86 Navy van(bright orange) ext long w/a 5.8L, coil front springs, alltime 4x4, and lots-o-rust but only 35k miles. Its a "quadravan" by "Pathfinder" here in Cali.
Quadravan's are fun, but the never were properly treated for rust by Pathfinder or Ford. I guess they didn't expect us to be going offroad. But this really is a general Ford assembly problem from that era. O'corse it is justa van on four wheels.
In case anyone's interested, all they do (well, did) is stick a NP205 underneath, cutaway the engine cross member and reenforce it, then slide in a Dana front, some drive shafts, and a custom steering link. pathfinder-vans.com
Most of the orange Navy 4x4 vans are the ones they used in Antartica. It helps to stick out from the snow when you get lost!! It gets just a little chiily down there!
