hi im not much of a mechanic but my (98 expedition 5.4 v8) has been misfiring and riding rough when i get over 40mph. I just replaced the spark plugs and that worked great for about 1 week and it started doing it again. Now it stalls whenever you pull into a parking spot or the driveway??? could it be the fuel injectors or filter?? or possibly the coils? Also, how are the cylinders labled if i need to repace a coil in cylinder #5?
When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Sounds like it could be that? Have you checked your IAC valve? If you do a search on the IAC valve you will see plenty of threads on how to see if its working properly. Have you cleaned your MAF (mass air flow sensor)? Do a search on that if you haven't.
I think #5 is on the last rear driver's side closest to the firewall. I'll check on that.
'Til the next post, good luck!
Phil
i just recently purchased this vehicle,i dont think the fuel filter has been replaced ever. it has 101,000 miles on it
what is the iac valve? where is it located?
and that mass airflow? not sure where that is either. thanks!
The symptoms you describe are also indicative of a vaccuum leak. It is very common for these engines to develop a leak at the PCV source on the manifold. It is easy and quick to check. Reach all the way to the back of the engine and feel for an elbow shaped rubber hose. If you can't feel it, then follow the PCV vaccuum lines to the back of the engine. If it is soft and rotted then that is likely your problem. It's about a $25 part and can be changed in 5 minutes with no tools. If the problem gets bad enough you may get a check engine light. I would at least check this before I spent any more money on parts.
