OBDII scanner Cylinder 8 Misfire
I have a misfire in cylinder #8, the past two have been from bad coils and I am also thinking this is another coil.
I <o></o>have an extra and decided to replace the plugs as the truck is nearing 100K miles.
<o></o>Looking at the engine from the front can someone tell me who is the #8 cylinder?

Here is another question, If the coil gets wet enough to cause a misfire will it still be okay after it dries out?<o ="">

I replaced a coil a while back and held onto it because I suspected it just got wet. I replaced the #8 coil with the extra I have been holding onto. I only drove it a few miles but all seems okay. The coil I removed also had water in it. I had the truck parked on a hill side and the rain came from the rear of the vehicle, I am thinking the rain got into the engine compartment.

It may be, I would let it dry out, then maybe stick it in a cylinder that's easy to get to and see if it works ok.
I also picked up some plugs but not sure I want to tackle that job yet. I have 95K miles so it's due.

When you say it was "wet", what do you mean? There was water in the spark plug hole and it caused a miss? Or did you take the COP off, turn it upside down and water ran out?
If it just got wet and misfired, drying out the spark plug hole, and the COP boot, and putting it back together isn't going to hurt anything.
COPs don't burn out if they misfire because they're wet, but they do crack and get wet internally, which is why I asked if water ran out of the top of the COP

Yeah, I have had to replace 4 cops on previous Tritons. All were due to corrosion from getting wet. How the heck they got wet is anybody's guess. I think my last V10 (1997) lost a cop after the radiator top split laterally along the top tank while towing a trailer through Nevada. The coolant bathed the engine. I suspect the coolant got into the plug wells.
I sure hope the '03's aren't susceptible as the earlier versions

Well the coil did not seem to help, I replaced the coil in #8 with the coil from #1. Headed out Saturday AM and it started running rough and the CEL would either flash when not under much of a load (coasting) or would be on solid normal driving. Had the codes read again at AutoZone still “#8 misfire<o>

Are these code readers accurate when calling out a cylinder? I may next change the #8 plug and see what happens.<o>

Could this also be an injector problem? Anyway to trouble shoot injector without just throwing parts at it?<o></o>

Do the plug. What brand are they? Original Motorcraft/Autolite, or something else? We've found only Motorcraft/Autolite really run the "right" way in these Ford modulars.

Got all but one plug changed, #7 I need to find a 1/4" swivel to get to the COP hold down screw. I don't want to move the fuel rails if I don't need to. Truck is running much better only drove it a few miles, no CEL, and idles and runs smooth. #8 plug was rusty from water over time, all plugs were due by the looks of them.
