That's my usual problem, thus the junkyard scrounging. Grenadas/Monarchs can often be found for free (I got 2 at different times by hauling them away, to the gradtitude of the former owners). The Versailles rear end can be pricey, if the junkyard knows what they have, but I've used a nine-incher out of a '72 Cougar. Drum brakes, a little wider track, but it can work easier (and cheaper) than narrowing a wider one. Plus, I think the truck 5-lug pattern is bigger than the small pass. car pattern. And I thought that V8 cars all came with 5-lug as well, I don't know what you've got, maybe someone was switching VINs around? -TD
Some of the 80-82 F100s have a 4.5"x5 wheel pattern like the passenger cars..
Yep... (I think you're) wrong - it was 88 and 89 - California stangs got mass air in 88 and all others in 89. (At least that's what I've read...but then I'm finding lately that many "experts" have varying opinions about Mustangs ) So...who knows FOR SURE???
Scott
I do.
88 CA cars were the first mass air cars. In 89, they all were.
This is coming from someone who converted his 87 GT to MA back in 1994 and currently has a Vortech blown 89GT. I've been playing around with 'em for a while.
i think the 65 mustangs were all 4 lug! i also believe they came with 260 & 289 V8's both were 2bbl, 66 brought the GT with the 289 hi po 4bbl, 9" and 5 lug wheels! not to sure , i'm guessing...
My dad had a 95 F-150 with the 302. I told some kids at school my freshman year that my dads truck had the 'five-oh.' They were like "dude that truck must be SAWEET!" Don't get me wrong, it was an XLT with every option, but they were disappointed when they saw it. "No way that thing has a five-oh in it." "Ask your dad if I can have a ride in it." Etc.
So he took one of them for a ride... When they got back, I popped the hood and there it was: 5.0. I then went on to say that 5.0 is just the displacement, nothing to do with performance. Idiots!

to my knowledge all the full size trucks have all been 5x5.5, majority of the the cars and rangers were 5x4.5" with the exception of some 70's full size which were 5x5", i had a 74 torino cop car that had 5x5", the 86 taurus is 5x4.25" the early broncos were 5x4.5" till sometime in the 70's the they went to 5x5.5". mid to late 70's lincoln marks had disc 9" but they are to wide for a mustang...

Its not a bad engine its just more of a car or small truck engine. If you use your truck as a truck its not an ideal engine but it will get the job done.
I know they weren't trucks, but I had both a Torino 500 and a Maverick that both had 302s and in both cases I got rid of them because the cars fell out from around the engines. Both engines were still running strong.

V8 cars got 5 lugs and 6s got 4 lugs. Its that simple.
You could get a hi-po 289 in 65 and the regular 289 in 2v or 4v. There were 260s and even 2 different 6s available.
The 9" came a couple years later when they got into larger engines. Possibly as early as '67 or '68 with the 390. Definitely by '69 though. Kinda sketchy on that particular detail. Shelby's cars may have had 9' rear ends earlier.
Sorry....I think I caused as many questions as I answered....

My 68 Bronco came with a strait six and 5x5.5.
Even the 66 Bronco came with the 9 inch rear end.
Agreed. All early Broncos had the bigger 5 bolt pattern shared with the 1/2 tons. They all had the 9" rear and either a Dana 30 or 44 front depending on year. Wonder where termyt00 got that misinfo???
BVD,
Your story reminds me of one time when a friend of mine was prepared to argue til the cows came home that a 302 and a 5.0 (refering to the Mustang 5.0) were two completely different engines!!!
