I've been a member for about a 3 weeks now. I can't wait to get onto the the net to learn a little more ea. time from this wonderful site. I went to one of those pick and pulls 2day in Pensacola Fl. since I'm on the hunt for an trans. for my 89 project I picked up for $150. I currently drive an 94 Eddie Bauer 4-wheel dr. extended. I've been hearing alot lately from everyone on this head light situation. If nobody minds, here is my take. I polished my dull 94 facia 2 days ago per everyone's posts and used the Carnabu wax in a yellow bottle from Wally World. It worked just fine and cleared up my problem. It is much brighter now. "You know what?" I'm tired of the plastic and am doing something about it. I bought the headlight assemblies from an 90 aero. Ford made the older ones with the headlights from 86 to 91. When I removed the assy. from an the older aero I drew myself pics. and took notes. The holes are already in the radiator support area for the conversion. The elec. plugs need to be cliped that plug into the headlight from your donor van(about 4 ins. will do). The wires are green, black, and red (3 wires only). The newer aero's 92-97 have the same 3 wires but the plug is different. The headlights look perfect because you know why? I bought the special clear square lights that have no small rectangular designs which makes in look like a million. I am aware that these are quite costly but I purchased mine on E-Bay for $20 for both. Just keep looking, the low prices are there. 1989 project---I'm installing round halogen head lights in it. Why? Why not. I measured and the old Ford Currier trucks (before the Ranger) have the headlight bezels that are angled and when I'm done it will give off the appearance of an 05 stang. ""Aerostang"? "Why not?" Round would be a tastely change would it not? I'll keep everyone posted. Merry Xmas everyone. Boz in Fl. Pan-Handle
Good job, Bozz. That's exactly the way I did it. Used the clear glass 6 X 8 rectangular headlights, got a pair made by Pilot, from Autozoo. Just put a pair of H4 Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in them.
Light output is so much better, esp, for these old eyes. I've always hated those composites, they never had the light output these do.
I've tried searching for this but no luck. How are you supposed to remove the clips on the drivers side headlight bulb on a 93 aero? I just can't figure it out without potentialy breaking them! Its driving me nuts! Thanks for the help.
You have to take the trim with the parking lamp attached off the vehicle. Remove two Torx SS screws from the parking lamp, with the hood raised remove the two plastic phillips screws from the plastic frame around the headlight. There is an upper and lower one to the right of the head light. (As your facing the vehicle your right) Rock the trim to loosen the plastic clips. If they break repost and I'll tell you the fix.
I though that they came out through the back. When you unplug the power there just seems to be a metal clip on either side holding it in. I'll try taking it out the front then.
Remove the plastic housing (headlight assembly) from the van. You have the right idea. The metal clips. They are designed to be pinched together, but what I do. Look at it closely. Do you see that the ends of the clips are pooked through little holes through the housing? Take small needle nose pliers and grasp these lightly and pull the small feet throught the holes. Once the clips are removed, pull the light bulbs out. There are a couple of rubber o-rings on the bulbs to hold the bulb in place tightly so don't think that you are harming anything at this point. When you reinstall, of course do the reverse of how I just explained, but wipe a little bit of vasoline or anti-sieze on the rubber so that you will have a water tight seal and it will prevent the rubber from wearing out. NOTE: don't get any of the chemical that you apply on the bulb or they'll burn out quickly. I always wipe the bulb with a little bit of rubbing alchohol with a paper towel on the bulb to clean it just as I'm putting in any light bulb because the grease from your skin is also harmfull to the life of the bulb. Any problems, let me know. See ya Boz
