I have a 20 year old F150 with factory forged aluminum wheels. The clear coat is still on the wheel -but the clear coat is cloudy. If I wet the wheels-the clear coat becomes clear again-until the wheels dry and then the cloudiness comes back.

This leads me to believe that the cloudiness is on the surface of the clear coat. What polish will remove the cloudiness but not harm the clear coat?

 

I would start with the least abrasive available and work up. The cloudyness could just be a sediment on top of the clear. I would start with a good cleaner wax, then step up to a clear coat polish if it needs it.

 

my uncle has an 87 firebird that had the clear coat on the wheels, i think it started turning yellowish color? i dont remember anymore, but i know he sanded all the clear coat off and they polish up really nice, if your not wanting to keep the clear coat i can ask him how he did it and give you the information if youd like just an idea
